Architectural detail of the Royal Pavilion, a former royal residence in Brighton, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England, in the United Kingdom. It was built in three stages, beginning in 1787, as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, who became the Prince Regent in 1811. The spectacular seaside palace of the Prince Regent (George IV) was transformed by John Nash between 1815 and 1822 into one of the most dazzling and exotic buildings in the British Isles. It is often referred to as the Brighton Pavilion. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century, with the most extravagant chinoiserie interiors ever executed in the British Isles. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
