Stand-off at a watering hole in the Kgalagadi National Park, South Africa, Between a Gemsbok Oryx and a black-backed Jackal. Gemsbok are a type of Oryx, found in the dry and arid region of South Western Africa. It is the national animal of Namibia and its habitat ranges from the sub arid Kalahari desert to the dunes and rocky mountains of the Namib. It is specially adapted to the dry arid regions and have various ways to minimize its water needs, notably allowing its body temperature to rise from a normal °C to 45°C.
