Composition of the diet by major food groups for different size classes of G. elevata. Diet of Adults The stomach contents of 89 adult rock blackfish were analysed and of these 87 were found to contain food. Analysis of their diet by the estimated volumetric method, along with seasonal differences in the diet, is shown in Table 1. Figure 3 shows the relative proportions of the major food groups in the diet of adult G. elevata. Adult rock blackfish were found to be omnivorous, consuming principally encrusting algae () but also encrusting fauna including tunicates (), hydroids (), bryozoans () and sponges (). The diets of adult males and females were found to be almost identical and therefore data for the sexes were combined for all analyses. TABLE 2.
