This later inheritancewas also the signal for a change ofname, assumed, as is expressed in theGazette recording the fact, out of affectionate respectto the said family of Newton.^ Mrs. Houblon Newton, as she was now called, wasjustly proud of her Newton ancestors. A grand oldpedigree roll (drawn for Frances Newton, Lady Cobham,in 1584), a precious heirloom in the Newton family, wasnow continued down the generations, till in Susannaherself we have the representative of the long andillustrious line.^. Arms of Eyre. FROM PEDIGREE ROLL, 1584. Sir John Newton = Margaret, d. of alias Cradog, Kt. Sir Anthony Pointz, Kt. Wyllyam, = Frauncys, Lord Cobhamnow Lyvynge. d. to Sir JohnNewton nowLyvynge. Sir Henry = Katrin, d. to Nazareth. Newtonnow Lyvynge. Y Sir , Kt. The LordPagett. ^ See table of Mrs. Houblon Newtons descent, at end of volume. 2 Dated Whitehall, 29 June 1819. ^ The roll, which is finely emblazoned, was doubtless bequeathed to herbrother, Sir Henry Newton, by Lady Cobham. In it the earlier generationsare designated as Caradoc or Kradog, lords of Newton and Nangel in Wales.
