A German bullet-proof suit of armour from the armoury of the Dukes of Brunswick, circa 1680, Helmet with heavy, one-piece hammered skull. Pointed, riveted front peak surmounted by a locking-screw and staple for the missing nasal bar. Heavy, hinged cheek-pieces. Riveted, pointed back peak with long neck guard. The exterior of the helmet with remains of original, pink velvet cover, the skull and edges with applied silver braids. Preserved quilted silk lining with thick cotton padding on the inside.
