OPERATIVE TREATMENT 337 The detailed reports of these cases, from one and one-half to tenand one-half years after treatment ceased, show that about twentyhave as good a leg as before the accident. The remaining twenty-seven cases complain of limitation of motion at the knee-joint,that the knee creaks in walking, that it feels stiff, aches, and burnsat times. The leg is said to be weak, and is troublesome in goingup and down stairs—stepping up is especially difficult; kneelingis painful ; stepping upon irregular surfaces is painful; running.
