The Swiss sculptor Peter Moillet created the bronze statue in memory of the former curator of monuments Dr. Rudolf Riggenbach (1882-1961). This bears a very close resemblance to the popular historian. Older Basel residents know him better by his nickname "Dinge-Dinge". The statue is located in front of the entranced to the 'Lohnhof', A former jail in the heart of the city of Basel, housing a the 'Hotel-Brasserie Au Violon' today.
