Adolf Hitler visiting the occupied city of Paris, 1940. He is accompanied by General Hans Speidel, who would later be involved in the plot to assassinate Hitler in July 1944. Speidel survived the reprisals after the plot (the only one of the inner circle to do so) and became a senior general in NATO after the war.
