Greenhouse effect. Artwork showing how an increase in greenhouse gases causes increased global temperatures. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and water vapour (H2O). The gases reflect solar radiation back towards Earth, increasing temperatures. The larger the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the more radiation is reflected back and the more temperatures rise.
