PORTSMOUTH, Va. (Aug. 10, 2018) Cmdr. Brian Hamel, outgoing commander of USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), receives a gift from Command Master Chief Donavon Gray on behalf of Carter Hall's chief's mess during a change of command ceremony Aug. 10. The mission of the Landing Ship Dock (LSD) is to transport Marine personnel, landing craft, vehicles, and cargo and then launch them using landing craft and helicopters in support of military or humanitarian assistance operations.
