Droit House on Margate Pier, now the Turner and Contemporary Arts Gallery

Margate, all the fun of this East Kent seaside holiday resort, with its beaches and amusements, originally developed as a Londoner's holiday area. The once-glorious seaside resort may have fallen on hard times, but after years of neglect a new £ art gallery is at the forefront of a bid to restore "Merry Margate's" fortunes. And, having missed out on the gentrification that transformed many of Britain's coastal resorts, Margate is now beginning to capitalise on its nostalgic, retro appeal. The Droit House has been converted into the Turner and Contemporary Arts Gallery exhibiting artwork from international modern artists including local girl, Tracey Emin. The idea behind this gallery is to celebrate the links that Margate has with the British Impressionist artist, JMW Turner whose sketchbooks have innumerable images of Margate itself and who spent much of his life painting seascapes inspired by the coastal regions of East Kent.
