He is credited the "Father of Modern Philosophy" and the "Father of Analytical Geometry". Born on March 31, 1596 in La Haye en Touraine, Indre-et-Loire, France, Descartes died on February 11, 1650 in Stockholm, Sweden. Illustration published in Bilder-Atlas zur Weltgeschichte nach Kunstwerken alter und neuer Zeit (Stuttgart, Verlag Paul Neff, 1882).
