B, an innercase, or box, is covered with halfthe shell of a real egg; anothershell, C, is of the egg-shape, butrather larger than the other, andE is the cover, or upper part ofbox, D. Put E upon C, andboth upon B, and then all threeupon D; when done, the box isready for showing the trick. Thencall for an egg, and request thespectators to look at it, and see that it is a real one. Next take offthe upper parts, E, B, and C, with your forefinger and thumb, placethe egg in the box, and say, Ladies and gentlemen, you all seethat it is fairly in the box; uncover it and say, You shall see meas fairly take it out; suiting the action to the word, putting theegg into your pocket in their sight. Next, open your box again,saying, You perceive that there is nothing in it; place yourhand about the middle of the box, and take C off, without B, andsay, There is the egg again ; it will appear to the spectators
