My bees have not done very well this season. Last fall I put into the cellar 24 colonies, and took out 23 alive in the spring, but they dwindled to 10 by the time they could get enough to live on and multiply, so this fall I have 20 strong colonies, and will have some 300 pounds of comb honey, more than half of which was gathered in September from heart's-ease. They are well sup- plied for winter. I have 3 colonies of Carno-Italians, and the rest are Italians. D. C. Wilson. Viola, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1892. Wheat Turning to Chess—Challenge. I do not pretend to know everything about bees—if I did, I should feel sad to think there was nothing more for me to learn. With reference to going to Ames, Iowa, I may frankly say that I am hardly ready to go over there and re- main until harvest next summer, for the paltry sum of $25.
