NEW EVERBEARING STRAW- BERRY ST. JOSEPH. This is the first really true perpetual large-fruited Strawberry yet introduced, and entirely distinct from the various improved forms of the Alpine Strawberry which have been offered at various times. During the summer of 1898 we saw this variety fruiting freely during the months of August and September in various parts of Europe. On our own grounds the past summer we picked a fair sprinkling of fruit during the month of July only; but as the entire season, with the exception of about four weeks, was a continuous drought, and as the plants were set out with a view of producing as many runners as possible, we do not consider that it was a fair test, and believe that under favorable conditions, such as a cool soil and a fair growing season, it will show up as well here as in Europe, and recommend it for fur- ther trial. Notwithstanding the care we take in keeping our list down so as to include only varieties of sterling merit, the amateur finds difficulty in making a selection that will produce a bountiful supply of the finest fruit from the beginning to the end of the season. It is for such that we offer this collection, which, in our judgment, based on actual tests made on our experimental grounds, com- bine in the highest degree all the qualities which high-grade strawberries should have.
