He came via Panama by the Northern Light, on theAtlantic side, and the Sonora on thePacific. Of the 42 years he has been inthis city, over 30 have been passed as anactive member of the Fire , Dolan was married in wife and daughter are both living. CHEMICAL ENGINE COMPANIES CHEMICAL ENGINE COMPANY NO. I. Chemical Engine Company No. i isunder the same roof as Engine Com-pany No. 4. It was organized May,1890, and was the first chemical to go. CAPT. M. OBRIEN into service in the San Francisco De-partmt-nt. The original members of thecompanv were Thos. Fernandez, en-gineer; Arthur McCracken, fireman;Richard Alien, driver; and Louis Mclnnes, steward. The present members are:Captain, Michael OBrien; lieutenant,Fred Sayers; driver, Richard Allen; andhoseman, John Fitzpatrick. Captain OBrien was born in Eng-land, June 10, i860 and came to Cali-fornia 1866. He joined the Fire Depart-ment December 17, 1888 as hosemanof Engine 17. After several transfershe was promoted to foreman of ChemicalEngine Company No. i, September 18,1899. The lieutenant of the company, FredSayers, is one of the few distinguishedwinners of the much-coveted Scannellmedal, as more fully appears in anotherpart of this work. The company has aChampion No. 3>4 Double 60 Chem-ical Engine and a corps of able and act-ive firemen. During its ten years ofservice the company has, time andagain,
