The disease exists in the interior and throughout the seaboard regionsof Africa, including Egypt; in Arabia, Syria, Persia, China, Japan,and India; in the Islands of the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian,and China Seas, of the Indian Ocean, and of the Australian Archi-pelago; in Norway and Sweden, Iceland, Russia, Turkey in Europe,Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, Italy, and sporadically in Germany,England, and the smaller European States; in Northern, Central,. LEPRA. 555 and South America, and the West India Islands. In our owncountry, special attention has been directed to the subject by theexistence of the disease in an epidemic form in the Sandwich Islands,with which the Pacific States sustain close commercial relations; by Fig. 73.
