Lady in mask at a ball, reign of King Henry III of France, 1573-1575. She wears a hat decorated with pearls, a full-face black mask, black velvet brocade dress with corset and vertugadin or farthingale, high lace collar, shoulder pads and slashed sleeves. From her chain belt hang a purse and mirror with feathers. Her hands are hidden in an embroidered muff.
