Candida glabrata fungal culture. Close-up of a petri dish culture of the fungus Candida glabrata. Candida fungi are commonly found on the skin and the mucous membranes of the mouth, digestive and respiratory tracts and the vagina. Common candida infections include oral thrush, vaginal thrush and nappy rash. This culture has been grown on a chromogenic medium which helps identify a large spectrum of Candida species. Each species grows in a different colour and shows different morphological characteristics, Here, the colour produced is purple.
