While serving in thiscouncil, Mr. Moore demonstrated hisbackbone, if we may so express it,by standing single handed by themayor in fining the violators of theprohibition law, where the entire coun-cil was against him. H. D. Hill hadprevious to this time resigned fromthe council and J. K. Williamson waselected to succeed him. The election of 1890 was very excit-ing, the candidates for mayor beingMessrs. A. W. M. Pepper and D. Turnerwere elected to represent the FifthWard. In 1891 C. W. Underwood, Steele, J. L. Camp, C. W. Morrisand T. J. McCaffrey were the council-men elected.
