Diwan I Khas the hall of private audiences or Jewel House Fatehpur Sikri has a unique internal central column that bushes out to create a 6m high throne Mughal Emperor Akbar built the city as his capital from 1569 but was later abandonned due to the acute lack of water Many of the red sandstone buildings still survive intact It is some 25 miles 40km from Agra and the Taj Mahal
