Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. Light micrograph of a section through a lymph node of a patient with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD). It is showing the characteristic features of abundant histiocytes, necrosis without neutrophils and a focus of inflammatory cells. This is a rare disorder that causes the inflammation of the lymph nodes, most often in the neck. Symptoms include tenderness of the affected area and fever. The cause is unknown and the disease usually resolves on its own within a couple of months. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
