Military biometrics. Biometric fingerprint scanner being used by a US Army soldier in Afghanistan. This is the Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment (HIIDE) system. The HIIDE system is a multimodal biometric system that collects and compares fingerprints, iris images and facial photos against a biometric watchlist. This scanning was carried out as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Photographed on 18 January 2010, in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
