A helmet M 1849 for officers of the Grand Ducal Hessian troops Black lacquered leather skull (with slight craquelures) with gilt brass fittings. The device with a Hessian lion between an oak leaf and laurel wreath, threaded pins, the cross leaf with unscrewable, fluted spike. Convex chin scales (one chain link missing), leather under liner, large national cockade. Leather liner, front visor underlay dark green and back visor in red. Signs of usage and age. A rare helmet.
