Sergeant Morris D. Mist, a Belgian soldier serving in Co. A of the 125th Infantry during World War I. He was born in Doomkerke, Belgium, aged 25, and later went to America in 1913 to seek better laboring conditions. He speaks French, Flemish, and English, and has one brother in the Belgian army. Mist was a street car conductor in Detroit before enlisting and is considered a model soldier, having been recommended for a medal. The photograph was taken in Gullrdheim, Germany.
