A sabre for mounted officers, reign of Louis XVI (1774 - 1793) Lightly curved blade à la Montmorency, somewhat pitted. Brass hilt with remnants of gilding and a pierced guard plate and knucklebow. Openwork guard bars fitted with a shield with an ancient looking helmet above martial trophies, slightly bent inwards. The grip back strap terminates in a pommel cap shaped as a helmet. Leather-covered grip with simple wire winding. Leather scabbard with gilt brass mountings (rubbed). Length 109 cm.
