. Packing house and cold storage construction; a general reference work on the planning, construction and equipment of modern American meat packing plants, with special reference to the requirements of the United States government, and a complete treatise on the design of cold storage plants, including refrigeration, insulation and cost data .. . In Figure 49 is illustrated the construction of a ren-dering tank with a cast iron head. This type of head hasbeen patented and can be purchased from the patentee fora nominal sum. The advantage of having the tank built in this manneris evident to all who have used the old style of tank withdished head extending above the filling floor. These tanksrusted out very rapidly where they came in contact withthe floor construction and the upper part had to be renewedlong before the rest of the tank was worn out. With thecast iron head the main body of the tank is below the floorconstruction and allows the air to circulate around thetank. The small space occupied by the cast iron head on thefilUng floor leaves more room to work around the tank andless opening for seepage water to find its way down alongthe sides of the tank. This is always objectionable, as theodor from dirty water, steaming on the hot tank, is veryoffensive.
