This star is around 60 light years from Earth in the constellation of Pictor. It is a young star, only 12 million years old. It is surrounded by a dusty debris disc, with initial observations of the disc indirectly suggesting the presence of a planet. Later observations, done with the NACO (NAOSâCONICA) instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope in 2003, 2008 and 2009, confirmed the existence of this planet. It is at a similar distance from its parent star to Saturn's distance from the Sun. The planet is about nine times the mass of Jupiter. It is known as Beta Pictoris b.
