Recklinghausen, Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Winter landscape EMSCHERLAND, here at the Kawamata Tower, observation tower "Walkway and Tower", EMSCHERLAND is a 37 hectare water and nature experience park at the water junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal and renaturalized Emscher at the city border of Recklinghausen to Castrop-Rauxel. EMSCHERLAND will also be a future garden of the International Garden Exhibition 2027. Before the renaturation, the river system of the Emscher was an open, above-ground wastewater canal, combined sewer with surface water and wastewater.
