Not for use in Television Not for use in Television Lichen simplex chronicus. Torso of a man with lichen simplex chronicus (also called neurodermatitis). At lower centre is a patch of thick, leathery and darkened (lichenified) skin, caused by chronic itching and scratching. The condition is psychological in origin, with no underlying cause. The skin becomes irritated and itches, which provokes yet more scratching. Photographed in India.
