The stone known as Long Meg, at the stone circle called ‘Long Meg and her Daughters’ near Little Salkeld Cumbria
Long Meg and her Daughters, measuring around 100m x 90m, is the largest stone circle in Cumbria and one of the largest in the UK. The name ‘Long Meg and her Daughters’ probably dates back only a few centuries; the circle itself is much older, probably Bronze Age. ‘Long Meg’ is the tall sandstone monolith standing a little apart from the main circle; markings on its surface include a ‘cup and rings’ as well as several spirals.
