The interdental splints of gutta percha, invented byDr. Gunning, of New York, and their recent improvement bySurgeon Wales, U. S. N., fulfill all indications necessary in thetreatment of this fracture. The two dental splints are made ofvulcanized rubber, so as to conform accurately to the shape ofthe teeth in both jaws, and are made in the following manner : lower jaw by filling the plate withplaster and placing it in positionupon the teeth, while both hands ofthe operator are placed beneath thejaw, holding the fragments intoposition until the plaster becomessufficiently firm to preserve the the casts the gutta perchasplints are moulded, and subse-quently vulcanized.
