Hemispherium building design. Wire-frame model of proposed office buildings at Longdenton, England, seen in the virtual reality (VR) Hemispherium. This is the world's finest immersive VR facility in 1999. The screen is a six metre wide dome, mounted vertically, giving an authentic 180 degree field of view in both horizontal and vertical planes. Seven projectors provide real-time computer graphics. The pilot (lower left) controls the view using a joystick. The wire-frame model shows the underlying geometry. As well as building design, this facility can also be used for pilot training and virtual tourism. The Hemispherium was opened in 1998 at Teesside University, England.
