For the motorist who wishes to travel further 156 AND MONTECITO afield, the San Marcos Pass offers a trip unex-celled for beauty of scenery, with Santa Barbara,the Goleta Valley, the Pacific Ocean and the is-lands on one side and the ragged cliffs of theSanta Ynez river on the other leading to thevalley of the Santa Ynez where is located thehistorical Santa Ynez Mission amidst fertilefarming Automobile Club of Southern Cnlifornia. From Santa ^ricz the road passes through tlicthriving little town of Los (^livos over what isknown as the Foxcn Canyon road to Santa Mariathe most northerlv citv in Santa Barbara Countv. 157 SANTA BARBARA The return trip can be made by way of the StateHighway and the historical Gaviota Pass, alongthe sea shore to Santa Barbara. The entire tripcovers about 150 miles and should not be missed. Another beautiful trip for a days outing isover the Cacitas Pass to the Oj-ai Valley, return-ing by way of the Rincon Sea Level Highway, apaved boulevard, which follows the ocean formile after mile. This trip is also one which willnever be forgotten by the motorist w^ho enjoysbeautiful scenery. There are any number of trips which can beplanned for the motorist and that is one of thefunctions of the Automobile Club of SouthernCalifornia, which in 1919 issued 68,173 maps tomembers and visitors covering motor trips
