30/07/22 Window cleaner, Dave Hollingworth up his ladder at the George and Dragon. An army of terracotta volunteers have recreated a Derbyshire town entirely from clay. Ashbourne Festival director, Ann Rosser said: "'Our Town' is a version of Ashbourne which represents the community. It was originally conceived to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. From a total of about 1,500 buildings at least 250 are copies of actual properties you'll see lining the main streets of our town. Many of the models are just interpretations of buildings from our town - a town which people love. There's only one person in the model - that's Dave Hollingworth, the window cleaner - everyone in town has seen him - he's part of Ashbourne." The project opens today and will remain on permanent display in the Town Hall. Workshops run by The ClayRooms saw at least 1,700 people, including many children, create the clay buildings.
