Enchantress, Lawson (all ?colors), My Maryland, and many of the whites being of excellent quality. Lilies are becoming more plentiful; violets are hard to move and prices are irregular. Freesia, white tulips, lily of the valley and bouvardia help out in the many orders for funeral work. [ NOTES. The Electoral District Society, The Toronto Horticultural Society, and the Gardeners' and Florists' Association have jointly requested the American Carnation Society to hold the conven- tion for 1907 in this city, the meeting having already been promised. John H. Dunlop has started to cut prices, vying with the opposition across the street, in one instance violets being placarded as low as 15 cents a bunch. The ^ Florists' Club held its annual social in St. George's hall January 16. Trade talent supplied a very pleasant programme. Manton Brothers are cutting fine blooms of cattleya. H. G. D. Brampton, Ont. "Stock exceedingly scarce; did best possible on your order" is a phrase that must have grown quite familiar to the trade during the past nine or ten weeks. Possibly familiarity may have bred contempt for the statement; but like many others, it is one of the disagreeable though true statements that have to be faced sometimes.
