Computer hard drive. Hand holding a ( centimetres) computer hard drive. This piece of hardware consists of anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) read-write heads and two disc platters (round) that are spun at high speeds by a central spindle. The discs are coated on both sides with a magnetic material that transforms the disc's magnetic field into an electrical current when reading the disk, and turns the electrical current into a magnetic field when writing to the disk. An arm moves radially to move the head over the disc.
