Gnojna Gora was Warsaw's garbage dump from Medieval times until about 1774. After closure, the hill was topped with turf. To provide uninterrupted views east across the River Vistula, pre-war buildings at this location were not restored in the Old Town's post-war reconstruction. The viewing terrace was restored in 2004.
