Plovdiv, located on the shores of the Maritsa river in the historic region of Thrace, is Bulgaria's second-largest city. Its growth over time has been intricately tied to the seven syenite hills it occupies, a couple of them reaching impressive heights of 250 meters (820 feet). This unique topography has bestowed upon Plovdiv the nickname 'The City of the Seven Hills.' Renowned as a cultural epicenter in Bulgaria, Plovdiv held the distinguished title of European Capital of Culture in 2019
