In 1903 the citizens of the three southern townships. Eagle Creek,Cedar Creek, and \\est Creek, inchuling as quite central the town of Lowell, determined to erect a monument to perpetuate on lasting stone the names, ifnot all the deeds, of their brave sons who engaged in the great conflict whichcommenced in 1861. It is understood that the monument is to cost three thousand dollars, tliemoney mostly, perhaps all, raised by the efforts of the public-spirited w^omenof those townships. It is to stand on the public square at Lowell. I --iSCW.
