He first won particular note in the trade when he presented a paper on soil conditions at the meeting of the American Carnation Society in Chicago, in 1920, a paper which W. N. Rudd de- clared at the time to have been the clearest and most helpful paper he had heard presented at a florists' gathering hy a scientific man. The department of horticulture at the University of Illi- nois and the florists of the state, witli wliom he has come in close contact, will miss Dr. Lehenbauer on his departure for Nevada, but they find consolation in the fact that they will, in all probability, be able to enjoy the results of Dr. Lehon- bauer'a investigations made tliere as well as those in Illinois. FLYOSAN IN GREENHOUSES. No doubt most florists have seen ad- vertised in newspapers a preparation i-alled Flyosan, sold primarily for the destruction of house flies and other in- sects in dwellings. Several members of the trade have spoken of the jjrejiara tioii as valuable in the greenhouse also. Among them, R. F. Heberling, grower at ilie Lake View Greenhouse & Celerv Gar- ''<^ns, of which O. M. Vail is proprietor, ;it Canton, O., gives detailed information 'cgarding his experience with Flvosan. He says: "Flyosan is the most powerful con- tact insecticide I have ever used. It laiiie to me through an agent's recom- mending it to kill house flies. I tried Flyosan on Faster Greeting pelargo- niums to exterminate white fly and had wonderful success, killing white fly in- stantly without bad effect on the plants. "I have also used it on cyclamens and cineraria
