Portugalete, province of Vizcaya (Bizkaia), Basque Country, Spain. Monument to Victor de Chavarri (1854-1900), founder of the company La Vizcaya which gave rise to the famous Altos Hornos de Vizcaya. The bust of Victor Chavarri was made in bronze and the rest using marble of Carrara. Other figures are allegories about the industrializing process, also made in bronze. The artwork was made by the Catalan sculptor Miquel Blay in 1903. With this work he won the first gold medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1905. At the bottom the suspension bridge that communicates Getxo and Portugalete over the Nervion estuary.
