The construction of the square, in the background the St. Jorisstraat. Onoorspatrially, the site was part of the Hunnerpark. The park was halved in the middle of the driveway to the Waalbrug and a traffic square was laid in the middle: Keizer Lodewijkplein, To Lodewijk de Vrome, the son of Emperor Karel after whom Keizer Karelplein was already named. In 1956 the name was changed to Emperor Traianusplein.
