View NE of Dunsfold late C13th church, Surrey, England, UK, on an artificial mound beside a large & ancient yew tree. A Grade I Listed Building: "an unusually complete example of a single build village church" of 1270-1290. William Morris called it the "most beautiful country church in all England. Cruciform plan with original timber-framed S porch and windows. The shingled bell turret with broach spire above was added at the W end in C15th. Walls of sandstone (Bargate stone rubble) with ironstone galletting (chips of ironstone pushed into the mortar) on the nave. Plain tiled roofs, the chancel roof has been restored. The circumference of the yew trunk has been estimated at 24ft. The mound may contain a pagan burial. The church stands half a mile outside the village, a local legend says that each time building began in the village the stone was mysteriously moved to the present site.
