It is all on such an overpowering scale that we seem half in a dream — the whole wide earth seems lying at our feet. Again we change cars, this time for an electric road which winds back and forth up the face of the mountain, around the edge of precipices, with canons below and around, and with incomparable vistas through forests of oak and pine of the far-away regions of the plain. We look down upon the tops of mountain ranges and into great valleys — La Canada and San Fernando lie beneath. We pass through granite cuts, over circular t,f bridges, winding and climbing as I >%^ believe no mountain road ever wound £j, and climbed before, and finally come & upon a lovely sylvan nook amid the %\ pine trees where a rural inn is set in ! the midst of the forest.
