Having- established himself inSan Francisco, Mr. Long served asJustice of the Peace from 1901 to1903, retiring to assume the officeof City Attorney. After two years he resumed private practice, butin the fall of 1907 was again elected, and has ever since retained theofifice as the result of successive re-elections. During his incumbency the amount and importance of the busi-ness of his office has greatly increased, owing especially to the begin-ning of the era of municipal
