Pink, knitted, whistling TV space creatures the Clangers are here. Manchester Day was created in 2010 and has now become one of the North West’s flagship events of the summer. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the creativity and diversity of the city. Over 2,500 performers and artists from local communities bring streets and squares to life in a fantastic display of colour, sound and movement.

Tens of thousands of people headed into the city centre today to enjoy Manchester Day 2015. The theme of this year’s event is Game On! with the streets lined with colourful characters paying homage to the games that have helped shape the city. A celebration of all things Mancunian, the annual bash’s showpiece is the spectacular parade, which this year will feature more than 2,500 people with activities and festivities taking place throughout the day. More than 80 community groups guided by artists and experts have spent months working on colourful costumes to be worn when a one mile long procession of floats, costumes and sculptures made its way through the city centre. The day’s cyber mascot Pixel – a Gameboy-shaped robot – kicked things off on Liverpool Road as 100 dancers followed him to bring different genres of computer gaming to life in a high-energy display
