Cochesset, Mass. Minute Men of 61 Co. I,, 4th Mass. Resjt., Co. C, 29th Regt. Comrade James H. Leonard born at EastBridgewater, Mass., April 14, 1841, re-sponded with Fourth Massachusetts Regi-ment, Minute Men of 61, proceeded toFortress Monroe, Va., participating inevery important engagement. Nearly theentire Regiment again volunteered forthree years. Afterwards organized as theTwenty-Ninth Regiment MassachusettsVolunteers. Comrade Leonard beingassigned to Company C. The engagementsof the Regiment are recorded as HamptonRoads, Gaines Mills, Savages Station,White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, SecondBull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg,Jackson, Blue vSprings, Siege of Knoxville,Campbells Station, Cold Harbor, Peters-burg, Weldon Railroad, Fort Leonard was twice wounded(quite severely at Antietam), and wasdischarged May 21, 1864.
