GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 4, 2018) – Recruits receive flash hoods and gloves during basic damage control training at the USS Chief training facility at Recruit Training Command (RTC). Recruits practice firefighting through hands-on learning, which means recruits will ‘train how we fight’. USS Chief’s staff of subject matter experts spend several days training recruits, covering topics ranging from basic damage control equipment to advanced shipboard firefighting techniques.
