Report of the committee of arrangements of the Common Council of New York, of the obsequies in memory of the HonHenry Clay . torywill ever be read with more interest, or reflect higherhonor on the country. Henry Clay has been a participator in all the greatevents which have given character and glory to this nation, for the last forty years. As a warm-hearted patriot andlover of freedom, he had no superior. As a statesman, uponthe broadest scale, he had but few equals. As an orator,he was foremost in the rank, while his sympathies reachedthe oppressed of every nation. This is not an inappropriate place to entertain thepresent motion, for the early theatre of his distinction wasthe Bar. In our national affairs he has left the deep im-press of his great mind, and especially, when dangers werethickening around us, his giant intellect devised and exe-cuted, (with others,) the system of measures which has im-parted new strength and perpetuity to our union. As a tribute of respect to the memory of such a man,it is fit and proper that all business should be suspended inthis court, and the same is now adjourned. 67 a. SUPREME COURT—CIRCUIT.
